Port Settings

To display the Port Settings window, choose Configure > Port Settings.

The Port Settings window provides configuration settings for the switch ports. These settings determine how the switch ports forward data to the devices to which they are connected. You can change these settings to fit your network needs.

You can sort the contents in each table column either alphabetically or numerically. To sort a table column, click the column heading.

To save any changes that you make in this window, click Submit. To discard any unsaved changes, click Cancel.

Port

The number of the switch port, including port type (such as Fa for Fast Ethernet and Gi for Gigabit Ethernet), the module slot number (0, 1, or 2), and the specific port number.

Note that:

Switch ports 1 to 14 provide internal 1000-Mbps connections to the other modules in the BladeCenter.

Switch ports 15 and 16 provide internal 100-Mbps connections to the management module in the BladeCenter.

Switch ports 17 to 20 provide 10/100/1000- Mbps connections to external devices.

Description

The description of the switch port. The limit is 18 characters.

The default descriptions are:

blade n for the internal 1000-Mbps ports (ports 1 to 14), where n can be from 1 to 14.

mgmt 1 or 2 for the internal 100-Mbps management module ports (ports 15 and 16).

extern n for the external 10/100/1000-Mbps ports (ports 17 to 20), where n can be from 17 to 20.

Enabled

The state of the switch port. Check Enabled to enable the port. Uncheck Enabled to administratively (manually) shut down the port.

Speed

The operating speed of the switch port. Choose the speed from the drop-down list. You can choose Auto (autonegotiation) if the connected device can negotiate the link speed with the switch port.

The default settings are:

1000 for the internal 1000-Mbps ports (ports 1 to 14).

100 for the internal 100-Mbps management module ports (ports 15 and 16).

Auto for the external 10/100/1000-Mbps ports (ports 17 to 20).

Note The speed on the internal ports is nonconfigurable. Note that ports 15 and 16 operate only at 100 Mbps, even though the device manager provides options to change the port speed.

Flow control does not apply to the internal ports.

Duplex

The duplex mode of the switch port.

Choose the duplex mode from the drop-down list:

Auto (autonegotiation) if the connected device can negotiate with the switch

Full (full duplex) if both devices can send data at the same time

Half (half duplex) if one or both devices cannot send data at the same time

Note On Gigabit Ethernet ports only, you cannot set the port to half duplex if the port speed is set to Auto.

The default settings are:

Full for the internal 1000-Mbps ports (ports 1 to 14).

Full for the internal 100-Mbps management module ports (ports 15 and 16).

Auto for the external 10/100/1000-Mbps ports (ports 17 to 20).

Note The duplex mode on internal ports is nonconfigurable.

On Gigabit Ethernet ports only, you cannot set the port to half duplex if the port speed is set to Auto.
