This CD contains the AIX 5L Version 5.1 operating system documentation.
Most of the operating system documentation is written in HTML and can be read using a Web browser that is compatible with HTML Version 4. You can read the documentation directly from this CD, or you can install the documentation onto a computer that is running the Version 5.1 operating system.
To gain the full use of the documentation, including the search function, install the documents on your computer. This allows you to use the Documentation Library Service application to read, navigate, and search the documents. Additionally, you can incorporate your own HTML documents into the library, and you can set up your computer as a documentation library server so that users on remote computers can read the documentation on the server.
Note: The search function is not supported in some languages.
For instructions on how to install the documentation onto your computer, read the chapter on installing and configuring the Documentation Library Service in the AIX 5L Version 5.1 Installation Guide. If you do not have a hard copy, see Using the Documentation Library Service to read the article from the Version 5.1 Documentation CD.
The documents on this CD can also be read by inserting this CD into your CD-ROM drive. However, if you use this method, you can only read the text in the documents; the search function will not work properly. Access the documentation on the CD by opening the documentation home page, which contains links to all of the documentation on this CD.
Insert the CD into the PC CD-ROM drive, and open the documentation home page by typing the following address into your Web browser:
file:///CDDriveLetter:nav/Books/nav.htm
where CDDriveLetter is the letter of the CD-ROM drive on your PC.
If you are currently reading this README file from the documentation CD in a PC CD-ROM drive, you can go directly to the documentation home page.
