I have a customer who is using an RS/6000 as an application box with
another as a print driver using PSF/AIX. They are producing AFPDS
data streams with Group 1 software. They would like to know if there
is any way to jog on mail piece when this stream of data is sent to
the 3900 DW1 & DW2 and then to an RSI CTS. The job data is coming to
printer as a stream, so I know we can't do it with a data set jog, or
a pagedef jog with conditional processing. Any thoughts?
In addition, they have the AFP Workbench, but would like to know if
there are any programs available on an AIX platform that would allow
them to sort an AFP data stream on a particular "field" or value and
then to view it.
A:
If the data already coming into PSF is AFPDS, there's nothing PSF can
do at that point to add the jog by piece. You might check with Group1
to see if they have the capability to insert IMMs based on certain
conditions. If not, you'll need to implement a program or shell script
that will take the AFPDS from the Group1 software and pre-process it
according to your specifications before sending it to PSF/AIX. There
are some third-party products that can do this; if you'd like a list
of the products and vendors, please reopen this item.
I'm not aware of any AFPDS sort/view programs that run natively on AIX.
You may wish to submit a product REQUEST to have that considered as a
future requirement.
Although the following is not a formally supported solution and has
not been tested by Boulder, I know of at least one SE in Canada who has
run Workbench successfully on an RS/6000 under a third-party software
product called SoftWindows (from Insignia Solutions, Inc.); this product
allows you to run Windows programs on AIX. Insignia Solutions has a
