In looking at the PSF/AIX Direct documentation, all the examples
are for token-ring. I need examples for a 3172 ethernet connection.
Are the examples in the PSF/2 Network Configuration Guide accurate
or do they need modification? For example, it doesn't look like
PSF/AIX requires IDBLK and IDNUM. Thanks for the help.
A:
The Token-Ring 3172 section of the PSF Direct Network Configuration
Guide for PSF/AIX (S544-5287--make sure to get at least -01) is very
similar to what you'll need for an Ethernet 3172 configuration. Between
that and the Ethernet 3172 section in the PSF/2 Network Configuration
Guide (S544-3511), you should have all the information you need.

When it comes to SNA Server/6000, you can use the information in
the PSF Direct Network Configuration Guide, local 3172 Token-Ring
configuration (beginning on page 59), with the understanding that you'll
need to create an Ethernet SNA DLC Profile and an Ethernet Link Station
Profile rather than Token-Ring DLC and LS profiles.

Regarding IDNUM/IDBLK, in AIX you have the option to use CPNAME
instead of IDNUM/IDBLK for the SNA Control Point profile and in VTAM
if so desired. If your customer wants to use IDBLK, the value would be
071 instead of 05D (which is used for PSF/2 DPF or Direct).
