My customer will be using HCON to transfer host EBCDIC double byte
character data to an AIX Sybase database for query and printing. HCON
fxfer will transfer the files from the host and do the EBCDIC to ASCII
translation. They want to then print to an IPDS 3130 printer using
PSF/6000 (or possibly PSM?). I want to verify that the DBCS language
support on PSF/6000 will support the printing of ASCII DBCS data to an
IPDS 3130 printer (that has the DBCS support feature). Is there any
documentation on printing DBCS data with PSF/6000? Thanks.

We did write a FLASH (BLD 9449) for DBCS and PSF/6000 Version 1. I
checked with the developer regarding what updates we need to make for
PSF for AIX Version 2, as well as your other questions, and it is
is accurate, but incomplete. I hope to update it in the not-too-distant
future with complete information, but let me answer your specific
question.
PSF for AIX V2.1 now supports resident DBCS raster or resident DBCS
outline fonts. Thus PSF for AIX can use the optional DBCS Resident
Raster font hard disk on the 3130.
PSF for AIX (and PSF/6000 V1) also support downloadable DBCS raster
240-pel fonts to the 3130. These fonts may be downloaded from a host
system where they are currently installed (or NFS-mounted from MVS or
VM). Alternatively, IBM Japan has packaged a number of DBCS raster
fonts (240-pel only) on 8mm tape for installation on an AIX system.
Languages include Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese,
and Korean. I can get you the product numbers if you are interested.
PSM does not drive printers directly. For IPDS printers, PSM works
with and requires PSF/6000 V1 or PSF for AIX V2.
