PSF/AIX: Xerox data with DJDEs and Font Index

PSF/AIX
Hi, My customer has 3160 attached via Ethernet with PSF/AIX. They print
applications from Xerox environment, this applications they migrate to
IBM environment, in the PSF for AIX. In someone application of Xerox
they has records "DJDE" and "Font Index", and the manage of this
resource dynamically, for change forms and fonts, dynamically.
How use this concepts, in PSF/6000 ?, How use dynamically from record
file, this changes of forms and fonts ?.
A:
If you're asking how PSF/AIX would handle a data stream that includes
DJDEs and Font Indexes, then you may have a couple of options.
1) I do know of customers who have written custom page definitions
with conditional processing to check for DJDEs and change to a
specific page format (IDM) or copy group (IMM) depending on the
name of the DJDE. That helps with the DJDEs, but not the font
references.
2) Another option would be to write a custom ACIF input record exit
that would manipulate the data prior to formatting with a pagedef.
You could change the embedded DJDEs to AFP structured fields like
an IMM or IDM. You could also possibly change the font references
to a Table Reference Character, which ACIF can process to change
fonts (assuming there are no more than four fonts required). If
there are more than four fonts required, you might have to code it
so that a font index is changed to an equivalent AFP structured
field. I've not worked with Xerox data streams myself, so this
is somewhat speculative.
3) IBM Printing Systems does have a services offering called XPORT,
which is designed for just the situation you describe. There is
information on the offering on the external IBM PSC web site.
Go to http://www.printers.ibm.com, select Services, then Professional
Services, then under Application Enabling Services select
"Xerox conversion services and Xport" for additional information.
I'd recommend that you review the XPORT information first to see if
that might meet your customer's requirements. Since it is currently
a services offering, it is not supported through ViewBlue or Techline.
However, if you need additional information, the web site I referred
you to in the third item has an e-mail id to which you can send a note.
I hope this helps. Please reopen this item if you have additional
questions on either of the first two options.
