I have a RS/6000 with PSF/AIX 2.1 and a IPDS queue defined in it. I want
to define a queue in Windows NT or Windows 95 and create a link between
both queues, I mean the Windows queue pointing to the RS queue, in order
to submit a job in Windows and requeue it in the RS without
intervention.
Is it possible?

For how to set this up for Windows 95, please review libraried item
RTA000151106. It may not look like it from the title (which I should
probably change), but it discusses how to download a free Windows
LPR client from the IBM Printing Systems Company web site and how to
install and configure it to print to a PSF/AIX queue without manual
intervention.
Windows NT already has an LPR client built-in, so you would just need
to set up a remote printer that uses that LPR client. I'm sorry, but
I don't have detailed instructions on how to do that (no NT machine).
I would assume that their Windows NT administrators would know how to
configure a remote print client; however, if they do not, then please
reopen, and I'll ask one my colleagues with access to an NT machine to
provide additional details.
Please also review libraried item RTA000152199 that discusses an APAR
for AIX V4 that will be required, as well as other actions that must
be taken on the AIX server to enable printing from remote clients.
Note that you cannot pass AFP parameters to PSF/AIX from either a
Windows 95 or Windows NT client using LPR. There is more capability
in the clients for those platforms for InfoPrint Manager for AIX 3.1.

Thanks. I have already the LPR in my windows client, but when I
try to define the queue in windows, pointing to the queue in the RS/6000
the windows starts to look for it and display a message that says
"destination host or queue unreachable"; but I know that the
communication between both machines is well, I tested this with ping and
telnet. I think I have to do something else in the RS/6000 like you said
but I don't know what, maybe it's necessary to start some printing
service and then the clients could see the remote queue.
Do you have this procedure??

Two things have to be configured on the RS/6000.
1) The remote client must be granted access to the AIX lpd, and
2) The AIX lpd daemon must be started.
There are two libraried items that contain information on how to check
these. RTA000136017 describes the use of smit panels to configure
these items, and RTA000148859 describes the use of the command line.
If you configure these two items on the RS/6000 and are still unable
to print, then you will need to run an iptrace to see what is occurring
between the two systems. You can find a description of how to run an
iptrace at http://tesch.aix.dfw.ibm.com/printips/iptrace.html (an IBM
internal system behind the firewall, and thus not accessible to
customers). Libraried item RTA000099378 also describes how to set up
and run an iptrace.
Hopefully the two configuration steps that I listed above will help
you resolve the problem. If not, please run the iptrace. If you
need help interpreting it, please let me know.
