PSF/2 to PSF/AIX migration

Topic thread:
Printer Systems (PRINT - NA/ATS)
PSF/AIX
Customer currently has PSF/2 servers setup to receive jobs from a
PSF/MVS host. They are using Distributed Print Function (DPF) so the
jobs are spooled on PSF/2 server before printing. We are looking to
migrate multiple PSF/2 servers to a RS/6000 PSF/AIX server doing
PSF/Direct (no TCP/IP on MVS, so no MVS Download). The customer wants
to make this as transparent to the MVS shop (as it is outsourced)as
possible, therefore, are there changes that need to be made to the MVS
side to accomplish this migration?
A:
I have confirmed that the host VTAM definitions will be the same
whether we are going PSF Direct to PSF/2 or PSF for AIX. The VTAM
LU names, etc can be "mapped" to the same names on the PSF/AIX
system. Only the LINE statements with the link addresses would
need to be updated for the new system addresses.
There is a good description of these definitions in the PSF Direct
Configuration Guide (S544-5287-02) chapter 3. They will need this
manual to perform the PSF for AIX configuration.
Q:
Does the statement hold if they are currently doing DPF to PSF/2 and
will be migrating to PSF Direct in PSF/AIX? I don't mean to split hairs
but the services contract will be for the RS/6000 and will not provide
for any work to be done on the mainframe side. The custmer should be
able to handle it if they know about it in advance.
thanks.
A:
The difference between DPF and Direct is how the Host Receiver
is defined in PSF/2 (Com Manager) -or- in SNA Server on PSF/AIX.
So, at the MVS host, the definitions are the same for either
scenario. They can use the same LU names, and change the LINE and
PU statements to connect to the PSF/AIX system.
