Q:
"Relative Printline" is a new PPFA order which is available on S/390.
I would like to know if this order is supported in AIX :
- in PPFA/AIX
- in ACIF/AIX
- in PSF/AIX
and / or InfoPrint Manager.
If yes please indicate what level (PTF etc.) is required ?
A:
For Infoprint Manager, relative printline is supported in the 2.1.1
release with the January 1998 PTF.
For PSF/AIX, the short answer is to order and apply the most recent PTFs
for psf.base, psf.acif, and psf.ppfa to obtain the relative printline
support on the AIX platform. As of 15 May 1998, those PTF numbers
are U456746, UQ11744, and UQ16342, respectively.

POWERFUL NEW AFP FORMATTING FUNCTIONS IN THE PAGEDEF
PPFA has just been updated to add extended color specifications and
to add a powerful new formatting capability called RELATIVE PRINTLINE.
RELATIVE PRINTLINE allows a user to define formatting that will "float"
on the page. This removes one of the major limitations of the PAGEDEF:
the fact that all formatting was tied to fixed positions on the print
area. Now users can call in different printline spacing, different
field formatting, different fonts, and even call in overlays and page
segments (which could be used for headings, rules, boxes, etc.) at any
page position. Now many applications that could only be addressed by
writing AFPDS structured fields or calling the AFP Toolbox, can be
addressed using a PAGEDEF and gain the benefit of outboard formatting.
With outboard formatting, future changes to print formatting can often
be addressed by changing the PAGEDEF, not the print application.
In many cases, PAGEDEF formatting can reduce the time required to
develop and test an application. However, RELATIVE PRINTLINE will not
eliminate application development requirements: the application must
write print records that can take advantage of this new capability.
This PPFA update also includes support for extended color specification
on the PRINTLINE FIELD command. PPFA support for RELATIVE PRINTLINE
and extended color specification is provided with APAR PQ08004 to
PPFA/370: PTF numbers: UQ09646-MVS, UQ09647-VM, or UQ09648-VSE. After
applying the appropriate PTF for PQ08004, also apply APAR PQ08878:
UQ09950-MVS UQ09951-VM UQ09952-VSE
*For PPFA in the AIX environment, APAR PQ11292 PTF UQ12321 rolls up
*all maintenance to date.
Both extended color specification and RELATIVE PRINTLINE require
co-requisite updates to PSF for enablement:
- RELATIVE PRINTLINE requires PSF/MVS 2.2 APAR OW29241.
*- RELATIVE PRINTLINE requires PSF/AIX 2.1 APAR PQ07139
* (PTF UQ08408 superceded by UQ11744 for ACIF)
- Extended color support is enabled for the IBM InfoPrint Hi-Lite
Color printer. For information on PSF support of this printer see
Announcement Letter 197-103.
