Can PSF/AIX take SNA in and TCP/IP out with PSF/VSE?

Q:
Abstract: Can PSF/AIX take SNA in and TCP/IP out with PSF/VSE?
Customer has VSE and no AFP at all. They want to print to 3160s on an
Ethernet LAN. I'd like to recommend getting PSF/VSE and PSF for AIX,
and get a Token Ring to attach the RS/6000 to handle the SNA connection
from PSF/VSE Direct to the PSF for AIX. If they insist on attaching the
3160s to their Ethernet, can they also hook up the RS/6000 to the
Ethernet and go TCP/IP outbound? In other words, have PSF/VSE have an
SNA connection from the host on Token Ring into PSF for AIX and go out
to Ethernet LAN on TCP/IP?
Thanks.
A:
Absolutely. You can use PSF Direct (SNA) with PSF/VSE to route jobs to
a host receiver running under PSF/AIX. In turn, that host receiver can
route output to any of the printers that PSF/AIX normally supports,
including TCP/IP-attached IPDS printers such as the 3160. The printers
can be TCP/IP-attached on either Ethernet or Token-Ring.
The connection between the VSE system and the RS/6000 can be any of
the connections over which Communications Server for AIX (formerly
known as SNA Server for AIX) supports LU6.2 sessions. Token-ring is
one of those, but there are a number of others as well.
Thanks for using ViewBlue/WWQ&A.
