We try to connect a PSF/400 to a PSF/AIX through a DIRECT connection.
On AIX, we have PSF/AIX V2.1 and SNA server V3.1.2 (=Comm Server 4.2).
The latest level (U452222) has been applied on PSF/AIX. The SNA
server has no maintenance applied.

We put all the required SNA parameters on both sides (AS/400 and
RS/6000). The link station comes active, but the status of the
printer (with PSFSTAT) stays always "idle".
After a while the link goes down.

We never succeed to have the printer connected from the AS/400
but we can print on it immediately from the PSF/AIX.

The printer is a 3130 (IPDS machine) connected on a token-ring LAN.
The AS/400 can ping on this printer and the RS/6000 too. Both
machines are on the token-ring too.

Do you have any idea or any suggestion ?

Thanks

There is a libraried WWQ&A item that lists the most common problems

Q:
When searching on item RTA000096518, I found a document that refers to
GG24-4493. We have read it and we have followed it exactly (including
the corrections that are mentioned in the document). That's why we have
no idea at all where to look.

Thanks.

A:
If you have done that (including adding the transaction profile on
the RS/6000), then the best thing to do is open a PMR through your
normal Support Channels so they can help debug the problem. They'll
probably ask you to export your SNA configuration profiles and provide
them as well as the AS/400 definitions. They'll also probably ask
you to run a link station trace and to see any error logs. There may
be maintenance required for Communications Server for AIX, and they
can help you determine that.

Q:
I just found the error.

I am working with SNA Server V3 and in this version it seems that
a default is set for "user_id" in the transaction profile: it has
a value of 100. But the "ainpsfhr" program is running under userid
root. So when I change this value to 0, the printer status was
immediately changed to "sees_prt/conn". And now we can print from our
AS/400.

A stupid parameter, but we have to know that.

Thanks again for your support.

A:
Excellent. I will add that to my list of "gotchas" to look for.

Thank you so much for the update. Closing.
