PSF/AIX and SP: What is required to support PSF-controlled

Q:
ABSTRACT: What is required to support PSF controlled printing from
a NON PSF node in an SP/2 environment.
SEARCH ARG: psf sp2 node
TOPIC THREAD: PRINT
PSF/AIX
..
Customer has an SP/2 installed. PSF runs on one node. Application runs
on another node. What is the procedure for submitting a print job
with -o options (enhanced LPR) from a node that PSF IS NOT running on.
Will customer have to install PSF on additional nodes to support print
to a 3900-0W1???
A:
I will send you a copy of a document called "IBM Print Services
Facility for AIX: Printing with the IBM RS/6000 Scalable POWERparallel
Systems". There is a section in Chapter 5 ("PSF for AIX Configuration
Options"), specifically page 26, that discusses remote printing.
There are three different options discussed, including printing from
the print server (PSF) node itself (using either NFS or FTP to access
the print data stream), printing using lpr, or printing with remote
queues. Enhanced LPR with the lprafp program (with the -o parameters)
is supported just as it would be from a remote standalone client.
You may find that one or more of these would be preferable for
your particular environment.
If you have additional questions after reviewing the document, please
reopen the item.
