QUESTION :
Hi,
I'd like to be sure what happens if I have to add a disk in a RAID-5
configuration.
Can I just add the disk and the data are stored on it, or do I have to
backup the data, and delete everything, then add the disk reconfigure
and restore the data ?
Can you pease answer for all the cases of 7135, 7137 and the new PCI
RAID adapter ?

ANSWER :
To add a disk drive to a 7135.
You can add a disk drive without stopping the system(hot-pluggable).
Once you have physically added the drive, you can create a new
array(RAID 5) and then create a volume group, etc. If you want to add
a disk drive to an existing array, you must backup up the data in that
array, delete the array and reconfigure it with the new drive. Then
you can restore the data to that array.
To add a disk drive to the PCI RAID :
The PCI RAID adapter also allows you to hot-plug disks. If you want
to add a disk to an existing array you must backup the data, delete
the configuration, add the disk, and reconfigure the array to include
the new drive. Then you can restore the data.
To add a disk drive to a 7137
If using multi-LUN mode:
You can simply add the disk drive and the system will dynamically
remap the data to include the new drive.
If using Single LUN mode:
1. Make a backup of the data on the 7137.
2. unmount all the filesystems on the 7137
3. varryoff the 7137's volume group
4. export the 7137's volume group
5. delete the hdisk definition currently associated with the 7137
(rmdev -d -l hdisk.)
6. add new disks to 7137 per instructions in the operator's guide
7. run cfgmgr(recreates hdisk definition)
8. recreate the volume group for the 7137
9. restore the data to the 7137
