7135 : non identical confiration on both nodes
ITEM: RS4000004883
QUESTION :
Hi,
is it possible to have a configuration where the 7135 is physically
connected to 2 RS/6000, with two controllers, but on the first server
each controller is connected to a different SCSI2 adapter, and on
the other one only the first controller is connected to an SCSI2
adapter ?
If yes, how does it react in case of failure ?
--> failure of the first controller ( there are LUNs defined on both
controllers)
--> failure of a the first node
No HACMP is considered in that configuration (hopefully)
Thank you
ANSWER :
Unfortunately, the configuration you proposed is not possible. You
cannot connect two hosts to a 7135 and connect one host to both
controllers(dacs) while the second host only has access to one dac.
If you connect multiple hosts to a 7135, all the hosts MUST connect to
all the dacs. The only valid configuration with two hosts has both
hosts with two scsi adapters and both hosts are connected to both
dacs(controllers).
There have been several severe problems reported when customers tried
to use the configuration proposed. It is also not recommend to use
the 7135 in a concurrent access, multi-host environment without
HACMP.
