QUESTION:
Are there performance numbers for graphics formats used in a window?
Can any formats be copied without conversion?
What commands and C function interfaces are available to write
graphics and graphics file data to an X-window (both directly
and with conversion)?
My customer has an energy management application in which they may
look at and capture weather information (in graphical format) and
send it to a RISC System to be displayed.

A: Images to be presented in X11 windows use XPutImage() on
a datastructure called an XImage. The XImage can be
in 3 formats: XYBitmap, ZPixmap, and XYPixmap.
You may find packages that export these formats directly
without conversion.
