HOW TO KEEP TCP/IP FROM STARTING ON BOOTUP OF AIX
ITEM: RTA000049781
QUESTION:
This is probably pretty obvious, but I can't figure it out...
Once TCP/IP is operational under AIX, what needs to be specified so
that on subsequent booting of the system, the TCP/IP processes
are not started? I tried commenting the entry out of /etc/inittab,
but the processes started anyway...

A: I have tested this situation in our lab and was able to prevent
TCP/IP from starting by uncommenting the entry which initializes
TCP/IP in /etc/inittab file with a colon as follows:
:rctcpip:2:wait:/etc/rc.tcpip > /dev/console 2>&1
Please note, that the "pound" sign will not work if you are trying
to uncomment from the beginning of the line, because /etc/inittab is
not a script file.
