MAX AMPS PER SLOT AND ADAPTER
ITEM: RTA000050392
QUESTION:
My customer creates their own MCA adapters and need information
like ASKQ ITEM CCQWD where they want max amps per slot as well
as max power available to a single adapter. This time they'd
like the information for a 250 since presumably, if they can
build cards capable of being placed into 250s, then they should
be okay for the rest of the product line. Please confirm this
statement. They would like to know using the -12 power supply or
whatever's std in the 250?

QUESTION:
I'd also like to know what size card will fit into the 250
(I believe they are all type 3 size but want to doublecheck).

A: The following information comes from the 7011 Hardware Technical
Reference (SA23-2666) :
RECOMMENDED maximum current +5 V 2.0
per adapter (amps) +12 V 0.175
-12 V 0.04
Absolute maximum current +5 V 4.2
per adapter slot (amps) +12 V 0.35
(see note) -12 V 0.08
Maximum current allowed for +5 V 6.2
all card slots combined (amps) +12 V 0.35
-12 V 0.08
Note : The system can provide the absolute maximum currents listed
per Micro Channel card slot. However, cards designed to
exceed the recommended maximum current limits per adapter,
result in system configuration limitations such as fewer
cards allowed per system, etc. Adapter cards with power
dissipation of 20 watts or more should be separated by empty
card positions or lower power adapters when possible.
You are correct, the RISC System/6000 Model 7011-250 uses
Type-3 Micro Channel adapters.
