HOW DO YOU CONFIGURE RS/6000 SNA SERVER & HCON?
ITEM: RTA000053936
QUESTION:
Customer needs HOWTO on configuring RS/6000 SNA Server and HCON to
setup LU2 sessions to TSO host via OS/2 2.1 Gateway. They have SUPPORT
FAMILY contracts for PS/2 and AIX Support but so far we haven't found
anyone who knows how to do this. There used to be a HOWTO on ASKQ
about configuring SNA Services to connect via OS/2 1.3 Gateway but I
can't even find that now. Thanks in advance for your helpĒ

A: The following might help...
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Configuration Guide for HCON sessions utilizing an OS/2 gateway
and SNA Server.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
The following terms will be used in the following description:
gateway: the OS/2 gateway
client: a system, either OS/2 or AIX, that uses the OS/2 gateway to
connect to the host.
NOTE: This howto is for a Token-Ring connection, but can also be used
to configure for an ethernet connection as well.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
To create the required configuration, you need to know the following:
1. The token ring address of the RS/6000. This can be obtained using the
"netstat -v" command.
2. The token ring address of the OS/2 SNA gateway system. This address
is configured somewhere in the Communications Manager.
You configure SNA Server as you would if you were configuring to support
HCON over SNA tokenring. The important profiles and values are:
LINK STATION profile:
Link Activation Parameters
Initiate call when link station is activated? yes
Adjacent Node Address Parameters
Access routing link_address
If link_address,
Remote link address .OS/2 machine addr.
Remote SAP address (04-ec) .04.
LU type 2 SESSION profile: (one for each LU used to support HCON)
Local LU address (1-255) ..
Link Station Profile name ..
Other SNA Server profiles can use the default values.
The OS/2 gateway configuration creates entries that match local lu
address and token ring address of a client to an lu on the host side,
as follows:
Workstation address Workstation LU Host LU
10005a00ffff 2 4
10005a00ffff 3 5
Or something like that. I did not have access to an OS/2 system so I
could not recreate the exact panels. The result of this configuration
is that lu 2 from workstation 10005a00ffff is mapped to lu 4 on the host.
On the OS/2 side, you configure gateway entries for the AIX client
just as you would for an OS/2 client. The values for local_lu_address
configured at the gateway must match the lu address configured in the
LU2 SESSION profile and the value for workstation address must match the
token ring address of the AIX system.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank You.
