WHAT IS THE AFFECT OF THE MAX I-FIELD SETTING
ITEM: RTA000040241
QUESTION:
What is the effect of defining a user defined max I-field of 30,729.
Will we have the potential of wasting resources with this definiton
if the vtam we are communicating with has a matching parameter with
a smaller number. We have used a smaller number which causes failures
on some application sessions. We would like to leave it set to 30,729
if the resources on the Risc system are not being wasted.

A: Setting the "max I-field" to 30729 will not waste system resources
because it is the "Maximum RU SIZE" field (in a Mode profile) that
determines the size of the buffer used for sending and receiving
data. (Even with the I-field size defined as "user-defined",
the maximum I-field size may be reduced by the system due to factors
such as the buffer size of the port and the buffer capability of
the remote host.)
