IS AIX 3.2.5 REQUIRED FOR SNA SERVICES?
ITEM: RTA000037955
QUESTION:
My customer is currently on AIX 3.2.3 Extended. Recently they
decided to add SNA Services to the system. They ordered SNA
Services, an upgrade to AIX 3.2.5 was ordered and shipped along with it.
The customer does not want to upgrade their system to 3.2.5 now (they
are currently in a very stable situation, so why move). My questions
are:
1) Can they just pick SNA Services from the installation tape and
install it without bringing in any new 3.2.5 code.
2) Will that version of SNA Services (the one that shipped with the
3.2.5 upgrade) operate properly with AIX 3.2.3E?
---------- ---------- ---------- --------- ---------- ----------
A: I will answer your questions in the order they were asked:
1. Yes, your customer can pick SNA Services/6000 from the instal-
lation tape without bringing in any 3.2.5 code since SNA Services
is a separate lpp.
2. If the AIX 3.2.5 PMP tape contains SNA Quality Refresh III,
U417689, then that version will work properly with AIX 3.2.3e.
If the tape has SNA Quality Refresh III +, U423978, then for
certain situations you may need the latest DLC and device driver
fixes.

QUESTION:
I just found out, my customer is actually at 3.2.4 - does this change
your answer?
---------- ---------- ---------- --------- ---------- ----------
A: No, this does not change the answer. SNA Services/6000 from the
AIX 3.2.5 tape will work with AIX 3.2.4.
