ERROR INITIALIZING DEVICE INTO THE KERNEL
ITEM: RTA000029290
Question:
I removed a printer from one of the ports of my 64 port adapter. When
I tried to add another printer, the process hung. I hit C to
get out and tried again, but this time AIX returned the error:
0514-040 method error
error initializing device into the kernel

Response:
The process you started, adding a device to a port, hung in the kernel
mode. When you escaped, the job did not clean up after itself, leaving
the process in kernel mode. This port will not be usable until this
process is removed. By design, process in kernel mode can not be
killed. Rebooting will usually clean up these extraneous processes.
