IBM 64 PORT BOARD USING XON/XOFF
ITEM: RTA000028734
* IR using IBM 64 port serial board with software (xon/xoff) flow
control.
* Large volume of data was being sent out from RS to device.
* Device sent XOFF character to RS.
* RS continued to send approximately 1k to 2k bytes of data after
receiving XOFF (according to data scope trigger counts).
* Test conducted several times; amount of data (1k - 2k) based on
length of time info was being sent from RS to device. (Longer the
time, the more data).
* Q: What is the specification? After receiving XOFF, how soon (in
terms of characters outputted ) must/will the RS serial port stop
sending data? 2k seems excessive...

A: The response follows:
There is no "specification". The 64-port board firmware will catch/
stop the outbound data stream in less than 4 characters.
You may have a setup problem. Check the character size, parity,
and stop-bits on the port and the device. Also make sure the
application being run does not turn off flow-control (you want the
IXON bit set in the c_iflag field of the termios or termio struct;
you also want IXANY bit off so that the next character received by
the 64-port from your device after your device sends an XOFF" does
not cause the 64-port to resume sending data).
