Questions on HACMP and Concurrent Resource Manager

ITEM: RTA000040628

QUESTION:
Customer plans to implement an Oracle database on two RISC System/6000s
with HACMP V2.1 using the Concurrent Resource Manager option. There
will also be another application running on the RISC Systems that is
not a part of the Oracle database and is not supported under the
Concurrent Resource Manager option (mode 3). However, this application
will work fine under the High Availability Subsystem option for HACMP
(mode 2).

Is it possible to implement HACMP with both the High Availability
Subsystem option and the Concurrent Resource Manager option (HACMP
modes 2 & 3 simultaneously)? When you order HACMP via cfrs6000,
you are given the choice of either High Availability Subsystem
or Concurrent Resource Manager. Does Concurrent Resource Manager
include the High Availability Subsystem option?

---------- ---------- ---------- --------- ---------- ----------
A: 1) Is it possible to implement both the High Availability Subsystem
Option and the Concurrent Resource Manager option simultaneously?

A: Yes it is possible to run one application (Oracle) in
concurrent mode and run another application in a Mode 2
       type of environment.

    2) When you order HACMP thru cfrs6000, do you get the
High Availability Subsystem when you order the Concurrent
       Resource Manager?

A: Yes, when you order the Concurrent Resource Manager you
will get the Highly Available Subsystem with it. In
actuality, the Concurrent Resource Manager is an add on
to the HA Subsystem even though the CONFIGURATOR makes it
seem as if ordering it is an either/or situation.

The only catch is that the application NOT running in Concurrent
Mode can not use any of the Volume Groups that the application
(Oracle) running in Concurrent Mode is using.

---------- ---------- ---------- --------- ---------- ----------
