WHAT IS THE "DEPTH" OF THE SCSI-2 COMMAND TAG
ITEM: RTA000039759
QUESTION:
What is the "depth" of the SCSI-2 command tag queue?
My customer is working with OEM devices and wants to make sure they
can take full advantage of them. Is there a hard/soft limit on the
number of pending requests to a device? What ODM device
configuration parameters may have to be changed for OEM devices?
---------- ---------- ---------- --------- ---------- ----------
A: If it is an IBM recognized and supported device on the RS/6000, then
the queue depth is a predefined attribute in the ODM data base for
that particular type of disk.
By using the lsattr command or smit, the value of the queue depth
for any IBM supported SCSI-2 queueing device can be displayed.
This value is fixed and cannot be changed by the user.
The following is an example of a lsattr command to use:
"lsattr -t osdisk -D"
If it is not an IBM recognized and supported device on the RS/6000,
then it will fall under the "other SCSI disk" category and the
queue depth has a default value of one but is user changeable to any
value up to 255.
