ERRORS FOUND WHILE VERIFYING PRODUCT
ITEM: RTA000037852
I ordered a ptf tape to fix the ac command. I asked for u414343.
It came with 26 ptfs. I found that all but three were currently on
our RS/6000 box.
I applied u414343 with prerequisites. The following message was
displayed.
-The following software products will be applied:
bosext2.acct.obj at level 3.2.0.0.u414343
bosadt.lib.obj at level 3.2.0.0.U402035
bosadt.lib.obj at level 3.2.0.0.U402385
After messages that U402035 and U402385 were successful. And after
a message that U414343 was successful. The following messages
appeared.
-The follwing errors were found while verifying product prerequisite
s.
Package bos.obj (usr part)
at level 03.02.0000.0000 U409714 requires:
bosadt.lib.obj p=U409401
Package bos.obj (usr part)
at level 03.02.0000.0000 U409438 requires:
bosadt.lib.obj p=U408990
Package bos.obj (usr part)
at level 03.02.0000.0000 U409315 requires:
bosadt.lib.obj p=U409317
.......
There were 31 of these messages. Some had more that one p=
statement. Two had "Package bosnet.tcpip.obj". The rest had
"Package bos.obj".
The Installp Summary showed all three ptfs as success and applied.
We are new to the RS/6000 world and this is the first maintenance I
had tried. Do I have to apply the ptfs that were in the error
messages? What do the error messages mean? Why are there error
messages for bos.obj and bosnet.tcpip.obj since I was only working
with bosadt.lib.obj and bosext2.acct.obj? Do I need to redo any
of the ptfs that I applied?

A:
The error messages indicate that the "ifrequisites" have not been
applied yet. Ifrequisites are PTFs that must be applied IF a certain
product exists on the system. The messages you are seeing commonly
occur when a new product has been applied. The same error messages
will show up if you run an "lppchk -v" on the system to check the
status of the software products. In your case, the new software
product that was installed is "bosadt.lib.obj". bos.obj has certain
ifrequisites for bosadt.lib.obj. They were not put on when bos.obj
was installed because bosadt.lib.obj was not on the system at that
time.
The problem can easily be fixed by applying the PTFs the system
is missing. If you have many PTFs to apply, it may be easier to
follow the steps in the 3.2.3 Notice to Licence's (for 3.2.3 Base or
3.2.3 Extended) under the section "Recovery Action for lppchk error".
Basically the steps are to:
1) See that PTF U409273 is applied. If not, apply PTF U409273. This
will give you the additional /usr/sbin/ifreqs command.
2) Type in: ifreqs > /tmp/ifreqs.out
3) Use smit to install the additional PTFs needed. In the SMIT menu
"Software to Install", replace "all" with "-f/tmp/ifreqs.out".
--OR--
Type in from the command line:
installp -f/tmp/ifreqs.out (your other regular install options)
