WORKSTATION REQUIRMENTS FOR OEC TOOLS APP.

QUESTION:
With the DCE version of the OEC Toolkit what will be prerequisit
software for Macintosh and Windows clients. I understand that for
version 1.1 OEC provides a "runtime dce-type layer". What about
version 2.0. If this is a DCE version, does that mean that it will only
run on platforms that are DCE compliant e.g., OS/2, AIX, etc...and not
Macintosh or Windows? Or will OEC also provide a "DCE runtime" for
those environments as well?
Assuming you have a solution for the DCE environment, how big of a
Mac or Windows workstation would be required. Is the DCE runtime
a huge piece of code?

A: For 2.0, if there is a DCE layer on the DOS (ie Gradient) or on
the Macs, then OEC will port and support the toolset (given
enough of a demand to cost justify). OEC does not intend to create
a DCE layer for platforms without an official DCE product. It
is also important to note that the current "DCE" like product ODE
is not DCE compatible. It was rather a rough attempt to follow the
emerging standard. You would not be able to take the RPC calls from
1.1 and mix with DCE calls generated by 2.0 code. To go full circle
here, that would mean to be compliant with DCE, OEC would have to
write a DCE layer for Macs and for PCs.
