HOW TO EDIT THE /ETC/SECURITY/.IDS FILE
ITEM: RTA000028867
Our current /etc/security/.ids file has 7 201 11 200 in it. We would
like it to be 7 20243 5000 20001.

A: This file, as you already have determined, keeps count so that
every uid and gid has it's own unique number, when a user is created
on your system.
The first number in the list (7 in your case) will be the uid
of the next administrative user created on your system.
The second number will be the uid of the next regular user created
on your system.
The third number is the next administrative gid that will be used when
an administrative user is created on your system.
The fourth is the next regular user gid used when a user is created.
It is not recommended that you edit this file unless it is absolutely
necessary. However, I have tested modifications to this file and have
found no difficulties that arise from doing so.
For more information on security related issues, you may want to get
a copy of International Technical Support Centers "Elements of AIX
Security: R3.1" (GG24-3622-01). While this manual was created for AIX
3.1.X, much information that it contains is still valid.
