MORE THAN 64 BERKELEY PTY'S?
ITEM: RTA000028257
QUESTION:
I am just beginning to encounter the differences between xterm and
aixterm, and between our "own" pty and the statically linked Berkely
pty.
Is there any way to have more than 64 static pty's in AIX, with some
routine? Surely this is some attribute of the operating system that
can be changed beyond 64? Please tell me it is so. This severely
limits the number of users we can support on a system if all those
logged in people can't bring up any windows beyond 64 using the
Berkeley methods.

A: Yes, the commands to change this are as follows.
1. odmget -q "name=num" PdAt > filename
2. Edit the filename and change the following entry.
values = "0-64,1"
Note: 0-64 is the number of ptys that are allowed. So if you
want up to 256 pty's, then change this to 0-256.
3. odmchange -o PdAt -q "name=num" filename
Once these steps are done, you can then change the number of pty's
available for use by using the "smit pty" command.
