NEED VENDOR REFERENCE
ITEM: RTA000031550
QUESTION:
Item ECBB8, Document ID Q493005, refers to extending the mouse and
keyboard beyond 15 feet. We have exactly this requirement (for about
75 feet). The item refers to RS-422 drivers. Could you give specific
vendor(s) of such drivers, so we can contact them for pricing.
Also, would we have to construct our own connecting cables, or do the
RS-422 drivers accept the 6-pin Mini-Din connectors? In that case
we would only need another set of cables for the mouse and keyboard,
right?

A: Unfortunately, IBM does not manufacture or market the RS422
re-driver. Furthermore, IBM does not support extending the
keyboard and mouse using re-drivers. However, I do have the
phone number of some OEM companies that may be able to help.
You can contact them and ask for the RS422 re-drivers.

QUESTION:
NuData was able to satisfy our needs very nicely. The solution from
NuData does NOT use RS-422 drivers. The original item that specified
that is almost 2 years old, and RS-422 line drivers were probably the
only solution then.
The NuData solution involves two interface boxes (one powered), two
cables (one each for mouse port and keyboard port) that plug into the
standard ports on the RISC System, and an RS-232 cable that runs between
the two boxes. The mouse and keyboard actually plug into the remote,
powered interface box. NuData supplies standard RS-232 cables for
distances up to 100'. They will manufacture other cables for distances
over 100'.
