DOES THE QIC-1000 TAPE, P/N:21F8732 HOLD 1GB OR
ITEM: RTA000029508
QUESTION:
My customer recently ordered a 7207-012 quarter inch tape drive for
his RS/6000. He is trying to purchase some blank tapes, and is being
told by IBM that we do not sell the tapes yet (P/N:21F8732 or
3M P/N:DC9100) because the drive is so new. He has tried to purchase the
tapes outside of IBM, and is being told different things by different
dealers. The SALESMANUAL states, under MEDIA, that we need QIC-1000
tapes. Our questions are: 1) Does the QIC-1000 tape, P/N:21F8732 hold
1GB or 1.2GB of data? 2) Does the 7207-012 also support the QIC-1200
tape, which would seem to be a 1.2GB tape? 3) Why would we sell a tape
drive, and not sell the tape to support it?
---------- ---------- ---------- --------- ---------- ----------
1) The P/N:21F8732 QIC-1000 tape holds 1.2 GB of data.
2) The ONLY tape recommended (read supported) for the 7207 - 012
is the QIC-1000 tape listed above.
3) We cannot answer this question since it is a manufacturing and
distribution concern.
