NEED INFORMATION ON THE 2.4GB DISK FOR RS/6000.
ITEM: RTA000028763
QUESTION:
Need information on 2.4 GB disk for the RS/6000.
It is my understanding that the 2.4 GB disk for the RS/6000 is actually
a pair of 1.2 GB 3 1/2" disks - each with their own SCSI address.
The question I have is, does the AIX operating system "see" the disks
as two 1.2 GB disks ? If the answer is YES, I should be able to put
one of the 1.2 GB disks in one volume group and the other disk in
another volume group. I am concerned that this is NOT the case when I
look at the performance characteristics of the disk. It appears to me
that there may be some shared cache across the two 1.2GB disks, implying
that AIX must "see" it as ONE 2.4 GB disk.

A: Yes, you are correct about the disks each having their own SCSI
address. The 2.4 G bytes drive is a 5.25" form factor package
containing two 1.2G bytes head and assemblies sharing a common
logic. Even though they share the same logic, the answer is yes
that the AIX operating system does "see" the disks as two 1.2GB
disks.
You can put one of the 1.2 Gb disks in one volume group
and the other disk in another volume group.
