AIX 3.1.5 SMIT PROBLEMS WITH TCP/IP FOR XONDOS 2.1

ITEM: RTA000023226

QUESTION:

I am installing Xon DOS 2.1 on PS/2-70s over a Tok Ring to an RS/6K
running AIX 3.1.5. I have received and installed the a21230 fix for
the supplied version of TCP/IP as well as the fixed version of the token
driver. I am now tsting the function of TCP/IP to verify its working ok
before bringing up XONDOS. I can Telnet successfully to the RS/6K and
run plain vanilla AIX commands without any problem, but when I try to
start up smit i have the following problems:
1. Most of the text on the screen looks OK but there are randomly
   misplaced characters.
2. neither cursor movement keys nor PF keys work

---------- ---------- ---------- --------- ---------- ----------
A: One way to get smit to work through TCP/IP for Xondos
is to type the Ctrl- sequence. At the Locus Telnet>
prompt type "h19" and press ENTER. Then at the shell, type "export
TERM=h19". This should allow you to run smit and use the function keys
and arrow keys. In order to run smit while Xondos is running, make
sure your TERM is set to "aixterm".

You also said that you are running out of environment space. By
default, DOS sets aside only 160 bytes of memory to contain all the
characters in all DOS environment variable. You can quickly run out
of DOS environment space simply by setting a long DOS search path and
having several "set" statement. You can increase the environment space
by having the following line in the CONFIG.SYS file.

  SHELL=C:\COMMAND.COM /E:NN /P

NN is the number of byte of memory to reserve. The range
is 160 to 32,768 bytes. 512 would be a good value for NN.

After successfully setting the XSTARTUP variable, the X.BAT will
call the host and allow you to send an aixterm back to XONDOS.
Please see the XONDOS reference manual on ways to start XONDOS.

You may also want to set the CONFIG.SYS FILES and BUFFER environment
  variables to 40.

There is a performance fix for AADU and XONDOS in APAR #IX19290. You
may want to contact Software Support to attain it.

---------- ---------- ---------- --------- ---------- ----------
