ENCINA LOGSERVER AND SFS QUESTIONS
ITEM: RTA000051407
QUESTION:
Encina Questions:
How can I remove a logserver? When I try to create a logserver
I get a message that it is already in use:
Principal logserver1 is already in use, but there is no process for
logserver1 and I can's cold or warm start it.
Secondly when I am using mkencina to set up a sfs (after a previous
succesful attempt to create a logserver1) after the command
mkencina sfs -n hpss -s logserver1 -f logfile1 -p hpss_mm
I get a message about hpss_mm already being in use.
How can I clean up and get the logserver and sfs back in business
there are no smit items to remove just create and start.

UNCONFIGURING ENCINA SERVERS
At times you might want to unconfigure an Encina Server. In order to
remove all traces of the server from the DCE cell, you must perform
the following steps:
1. Stop the Server.
2. Remove the Server's security information.
3. Remove the Server from the CDS namespace.
4. Remove the Server's information from the rc.encina file.
STOPPING A SERVER
Like starting an Encina server, you can use SMIT to stop Encina
servers. Use the following steps to stop a server:
1. As root, start SMIT.
smit encina
2. Select one of the following menu options corresponding to the
type of server you want to stop.
Encina Log Server Administration - Log Servers
Encina Structured File System (SFS) Administration - SFS Servers
Encina Monitor Administration - Cell Managers or Node Managers
Encina Peer-to-Peer Communications (PPC) Administration - PPC
Gateway Servers
3. Select Start/Stop for the type of server you want
to stop.
4. Select Stop for the type of server you want to stop.
5. You are prompted for the names of the servers you want to stop.
Use the list option to help you determine the servers you want to
stop.
6. Once you have chosen the names of the servers, select Do.
REMOVING A SERVER'S SECURITY INFORMATION
You must remove the server's account, principal, and keytab entries.
You do this by the following steps:
1. Login to the DCE cell as the cell administrator.
dce_login cell_admin password
2. Start rgy_edit.
rgy_edit
3. Delete the account for the server. Replace principal with the
name of the principal the server was using.
rgy_edit=> delete -p principal
4. Change to the principal domain and delete the server's principal.
Again replace principal with the name of the principal the server
was using.
rgy_edit=> domain principal
Domain changed to: principal
rgy_edit=> delete principal
The following prefixes are helpful when qualifying the server name.
Note: If you used a CDS root other than /.:/encina, replace
/.:/encina in the following examples with the CDS root you used.
Log Servers - /.:/encina/log/
SFS Servers - /.:/encina/sfs/
RQS Servers - /.:/encina/rqs
PPC Gateway Servers - /.:/encina/ppc/gateway/
Cell Managers and Node Managers are stored in the CDS namespace
differently than other Encina servers. To delete a Cell Manager, use
the following command:
cdsdel -o /.:/encina/tpm/cell_name/cm
To delete a Node Manager, use the following command:
cdsdel -o /.:/encina/tpm/cell_name/node_name
REMOVING A SERVER'S INFORMATION FROM RC.ENCINA
You must edit the /etc/rc.encina file to remove a server's
information. You need to make a copy of the original /etc/rc.encina
file before making any changes. The server information is stored is
stored at the end of the /etc/rc.encina file. Use the following
procedure to edit the /etc/rc.encina file:
1. As root, edit the file /etc/rc.encina. You can use you favorite
editor (vi in this case).
vi /etc/rc.encina
2. Find the section at the end of the file prefaced by the
following comment where servers below
3. Look for the line that contains the name of the server you want
to remove. The server name immediately follows the -n flag embedded
toward the middle of the line.
Note: Note: When removing a Cell Manager or a Node Manager, look for
the Monitor Cell Name directly after the -m flag.
4. Delete this line.
5. Save the file.
