IN HACMP/6000 CAN WE USE 1 ETHERNET CARD TO

QUESTION:
With HACMP 2.1 or 3.1, can we use 1 ethernet card to backup 2 others,
1 running OSI/MMS, the other running TCP/IP?

A: HACMP is designed to perform IP address takeover and hardware address
takeover in the case of a node failure. I'm not sure about exactly
what must be done to take over an OSI adapter, but HACMP will
probably not perform this takeover by default. You may need to
configure a pre- or post-event script to make this takeover occur.
Information on event scripts can be found in the HACMP Planning and
   Installation Guide (SC23-2596).

      Thank you

Following comment added by author as part of answer evaluation.
Can you please be more specific. In other words:

   1) Does HACMP/6000 2.1 (or 3.1) support automatic takeover of
an ethernet adapter running OSI/MMS from SISCO Corp.?

   2) Is there a way to write scripts to accomplish this?

   3) Is there a way to write scripts to have 1 ethernet adapter
      backup 2, 1 running TCP/IP and 1 running OSI/MMS?

   4) It is my understanding that HACMP/6000 2.1 and later
actually swaps the address at the MAC layer. If this is true,
does the protocol running on the card really matter?
Thanks...

See above...

A: I'll address your questions individually:

   1. No, HACMP/6000 only supports takeover of TCP/IP interfaces.
However, you do have the ability to create scripts to perform this
      type of takeover.

   2. Yes, there is a way to write scripts to handle this. You can
write pre- and post-event scripts to do whatever you like.
Information on scripts can be found in the HACMP Planning and
Installation Guide (SC23-2596). Additionally, if your customer
would like in-depth assistance writing these scripts, they may want
to consider using IBM's ConsultLine service.

   3. You can write scripts to do almost anything you want. So yes, this
      is possible.

   4. Yes, HAMCP 2.1 and later swaps the address at the MAC layer.
But only TCP/IP has been tested with HACMP, so I cannot comment on
other protocols. Additionally, to configure MAC address takeover,
the adapters must be defined with IP addresses (TCP/IP).

Basically, everything you want to accomplish can be done using
event scripts. Unfortunately, ASKQ technical support does not provide
the in-depth type of information that would be required to write
all of these scripts. If you do need assistance, your best bet
   would be to call ConsultLine.

    Thank you

---------- ---------- ---------- --------- ---------- ----------
