IS IT POSSIBLE FOR AIX APPL. TO PRINT TO PC ATTACHED OR NETWORKED NOVELL PRINTERS WITH NETWARE FOR AIX?

QUESTION:
Question concerning Netware/6000 version 3.11A and AIX 3.2.5 which my
customer is running on the RS/6000. I have read several ASKQ items with
slightly conflicting information and would like a definite answer. My
customer has a campus wide Ethernet network on which sit a Native Novell
server and many Windows PC Novell clients, some of which have HP Laser
IIIs attached, and some HP Laser IIIsi and IV's which sit directly on
the Ethernet network and use the HP PCONFIG software to act as
independent print servers. What I want to know is:
1) Is there any possible way to allow an AIX user coming into the
RS/6000 via NVT or telnet (and running an AIX application) to print
from that application to one of the Laserprinters that is attached
directly to the network or to one of those attached to one of the
PCs? For the purposes of this question, I would only like to use
the software my customer currently has, Novell Netware 3.11 on their
file server and Netware/6000 3.11A on their RS/6000. I know I could
get Novell NFS NLM to do this but would prefer not to if it is not
absolutely necessary. I noticed several ASKQ items that seemed to
imply this was possible, especially the FLASH-Comparison between AIX
Netware and Native Netware, which says on page 6 under printing,
"Users can telnet or use NVT to get into the RS/6000 to run their
applications, then use LP to route the print data for those AIX
applications to a queue under Netware for AIX".
2) If the answer to #1 is yes, how exactly do you configure the printer
under AIX and/or Netware/6000. (Depending on whether it gets
configured in both places or just one)

A: I am assuming the printers attached to both the PCs and the network
are defined as Netware printers.
Unfortunately, the flash article you referred to is not worded in
straight-forward manner. No, it is not possible to allow an AIX user
to print to a Netware printer without additional software.
Before I clarify the flash article, I would like to give some
background information.
Normally, Netware print queues are defined to send the print job
directly to a printer. However, with Netware/6000 netware print
queues can also be defined to send the print job to an AIX print
queue.
This is best explained pictorially.
Normal netware print queues:
netware print queue --> printer
Netware/6000 netware print queues:
netware print queue --> AIX print queue --> printer
The flash article says:
Users can also telnet or use NVT to get into the RISC System/6000 and
run their AIX applications, they can then use LP to route the print
data for that AIX applications to a queue under the NetWare for
AIX/6000.
This should be worded as:
Users can also telnet or use NVT to get into the RISC System/6000 and
run their AIX applications, they can then use LP to route the print
data for that AIX application to the AIX queue under Netware for
AIX/6000.
What it is saying is that you can log into the RISC and use LP to send
the print job directly to the AIX print queue that was defined under
the Netware print queue, bypassing the netware print queue altogether.
So, the only way AIX can print to a Netware print queue is through a
product such as Novell's FlexIP or Netware NFS. FlexIP is a cheaper
alternative to Netware NFS. Please contact Novell at 1-800-LAN-KIND
more information on these products.
