WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO WRITE CUSTOM CODE TO COMMUNICATE TO A OEM CHANNEL DEVICES ATTACHED TO BLOCK MUX CHAN ADAP
ITEM: RTA000025569
QUESTION:
I have a customer who manufactures S/370 channel attached devices
that look to a S/370 as a channel attached 3211 printer. He wants
to enable these devices on the RISC/6000 by attaching them to
the RS/6000 via Block Mulitplexor Channel Adapter. I understand that
some custom coding on his part is involved. I see in the
salesmanual entry that there is an "API" available for the adapter.
Could the customer use this API to code the communications? What
information is available to help him size this effort?

A: R:Unfortunately, the customer can NOT use this API to code the
communications to allow a RISC System/6000 to attach to S/370 channel
attached devices via the BMX adapter. The BMX connection is NOT a 370-
channel capable of driving I/O. It is a 370 control unit (i.e. it
emulates a 3088 control unit).
