QUESTION:
In AIX v4.1 do I have to use a license manager?
For example, if I have the following configuration:
I have a network of RS/6000s. I'm using 7006-41Ws with the client
bundle of AIX, OPEN/GL, GL & PEX, PHIGS installed to run the application
IDEAS (or CAEDS). I have a 7009-C10 running the server bundle acting
as a nameserver.
Each time the people using the 7006-41Ws and access OPEN/GL or PHIGS,
will the system go out every time these are accessed and check the
license server.
I guess what I'm really asking is what programs require to be verified
by IFOR/LS that a user is allowed to have access?

A: According to Announcement Letter 294-445, 'OPENGL and GL 3.2 Version
4.1 for AIX', the OPENGL and GL products you desire can be obtained
by obtaining a one-time license for the above-mentioned product
(feature code 5696-939). Both PEX and PHIGS are packaged together in
a second product (feature code 5696-907) and can also be purchased on
a one-time license basis.
Since these products are licensed on a one-time basis, no license
server will be required to use them.
For more information please refer to Announcement Letters 294-445 and
294-446.
