QUESTION:
We are proposing the 0840-001 EXB-10E 8mm Tape Library for use on a
7013/590. Will Sysback/6000 contain the necessary support to drive
the 10 cartridge stacker? The salesmanual mentions other software
packages which are much more expensive than Sysback/6000. Thank you.

A: Sysback/6000 does not supply the necessary device drivers to operate
the robotic arm in the EXB-10E 8mm Tape Library. You can, however,
use Sysback/6000 with the EXB-10E in SEQUENTIAL mode. This will only
allow you to access the tapes in their bottom-up order inside the
casing.
You can alternatively write your own device drivers for Sysback/6000
using Writing A Device Driver for AIX Version 3.2 (GG24-3629-01).
Other applications like Legato Networker, ADSM, and Unitree provide
the necessary drivers for the internal arm.
