NETVIEW/6000 RUNNING WITH X-STATIONS. WHAT ARE THE ADDITIONAL MEMORY REQUIREMENTS TO DO THIS? WHICH X-STAT?

QUESTION:
I have a question about Netview/6000. We have a customer who wants
to use about 5 X-stations with their RS/6000 running Netview/6000.
The X-stations will be Netivew/6000 nodes. What are the additional
memory requirements in the RS6K to support EACH x-station? Also,
should the customer use a 140 or 150 X-station? Thanks

A: If you mean that the additional Xstations will simply show
up as additional icons on the Netview administrators screen,
then the answer is: there is minimal additional memory needs,
perhaps a few more pages of mbuffs to handle more communications
traffic between the machines.
If you mean that the additional Xstations will be displaying
Netview screens on the Xstation then there are additional
memory needs: about 15-25 Mb per copy of Netview running.
The documentation makes mention that the first instance of
Netview running needs a minimum of 32 Mb and 48 is recommended.
In our experience, we think even this is low and our recommendation
is 64 Mb. So the end formula for memory on the server is:
64 Mb + (20 Mb * #additional users) + memory for other clients
In your example this would be roughly 164 Mb.
Either the Xstation 140 or Xstation 150 would be suitable.
The Xstation 150 is faster, but we run Netview even on the
Xstation 130.
