HOT-SPOT ANALYSIS SUPPORT IN XLF ON RS/6000?
ITEM: RTA000015600
QUESTION:
Is there any way of doing "hot-spot" analysis of FORTRAN code
with the XLF compiler on RS/6000. THis is available under VS FORTRAN
on the mainframe and is considered an important tool for performance
tuning of large FORTRAN computational codes. The system can report
on percentage of CPU time consumed by all lines of source code
or subroutines in the code. This can identify where to concentrate
effort in reducing the computational time.

A: A function similar to VS FORTRAN's "hot-spot" analyzer is available
for XL FORTRAN via the "-p" compiler options flag for debugging. Use of
this option sets up the object file for profiling (this will analyze
usage of subroutines in program).
