QUESTION:
Is there a way to set NV/6000 V2.1 to discover nodes using a
seed file and then stop? Customer wants to completely specify
his network via the seed file, and then start NV/6000. He
desires that NO further autodiscovery take place, after the seed file
has been processed.

A: Yes, it is possible to discover only those nodes in the seedfile
and then to stop discovery of any unwanted nodes. The goal is to
start the netmon daemon while New Node Discovery is turned off.
New Node Discovery is turned on by default.
The steps to do this are as follows:
1. Create the seed file.
2. Load the seed file by:
smit nv6000
Configure
Set options for AIX NetView/6000 daemons
Set options for topology, discovery, and database daemons
Set options for netmon daemon
Load seed file from: (name_of_seedfile)
3. Start NetView/6000:
/usr/OV/bin/nv6000
4. Now, the New Node Discovery Swithch must be turned off.
Options (from the Main Menu bar)
Topology/Status Polling Intervals: IP
In the "NetView/6000 Topology/Status Polling Configuration"
window, find and select the 'New Node Discovery Switch' to
turn autodiscovery off.
5. The next step is to remove any previous discovered unwanted
nodes. The information for these nodes is stored in the
Openview Database. Removal of this information can be
accomplished as follows:
Double-click on the IP Intenet Symbol.
Using the left mouse button, box the entire IP Internet window
making sure to enclose all nodes.
Now, choose 'Edit' from the main menu bar and 'Delete Object
'From All Submaps'.
6. Finally, stopping and re-starting the netmon daemon will allow
only the discovery of the nodes in the seedfile because the
autodiscovery is turned off. This is done by entering the
following commands.
ovstop netmon
ovstart netmon
Following these step should allow you to stop discovery of nodes
beyond the seedfile. Please note, PTF U433539 should be installed.
