WANT TO MOVE BOOT LOGICAL VOLUME AND DUMP LOGICAL
ITEM: RTA000031491
QUESTION:
I want to install a new disk drive in a 550 and use migratepv
to move all of the data from hdisk0 to the new drive. I will
be removing the current hdisk0.
Today, hdisk0 contains the blv and dump logical volume, etc.
What steps do I need to take after the migratepv so that the machine
knows the correct boot and dump devices?

A: There is an excellent ASKQ item #5vpbn ("HOWTO AIX: Avoiding
Problems When Migrating Logical Volumes In The Root Volume Group
Between Disks") that you should reference. It will help you avoid
any pitfalls while migrating data in the rootvg. Basically, after you
add the new disk to the volume group, you will need to issue the
following commands:
1. sysdumpdev -p /dev/sysdumpnull
2. migratepv hdisk0 hdiskx
3. bosboot -a -u -d /dev/hdiskx
4. sysdumpdev -p /dev/hd7
5. reducevg rootvg hdisk0
(NOTE: hdiskx is the destination physical volume.)
Please reference ASKQ item #5vpbn for more information.
