YPPASSWD REQUIREMENT OF THE OLD PASSWD INPUT
ITEM: RTA000031022
QUESTION:
Is there a way to change yppasswd without the requirement of the
input of the old passwd? Suppose that the user looses his/her password,
how can the system admin changes the password? This question refers
to NIS.
Thanks.

A: The only way to change a NIS users password if the old password has
been lost or forgotten is as follows:
1. Change the password on the NIS server.
# passwd 'username'
# type in roots' passwd in place of users old passwd
2. Rebuilt the password map.
# cd /etc/yp
# make
3. Push the map.
# yppush
This is the only way of changing a users password if the old password
has been lost or forgot that we know of.
