TELNET REQUIREMENT TO LOGIN TO A SPECIFIC USERID.
ITEM: RTA000025808
QUESTION:
Is there a way in AIX V3.2 to customize the telnetd process
so that it will go directly to a specific login userid
rather than providing a "getty" type login prompt.
This can be done with rlogin using the -l option, however
the customer wants to provide an automated login service
into their RS/6000 from some VAXes that do not have rlogin
support - only telnet.
The only telnet options are hostname & port number.
One thought was to customize inetd.conf to have a "special"
telnetd process monitoring a specific port that would somehow
login to a specific userid.
Can you suggest how this function might be provided using telnet??

A: Unfortunately, it is not possible to obtain the "login to a
specific userid" functionality from customizing the inetd.conf
file. Also, as you mentioned, the only telnet options are
hostname and port number; therefore, this functionality can not
be provided from the command line.
Nevertheless, it may be possible to achieve this functionality by
modifying telnet and telnetd, but the task will not be trivial
and is definitely not supported.
