I NEED TO CLEAN UP/USR
ITEM: RTA000028858
I need to clean up (get space) /usr to load the 3.2.3 updates.
Are there any files you recommend I look for to get rid of.
I noticed there are a lot a files in:
/usr/lpp/bos/inst_root/*
/usr/lpp/bos/deinstl/*
/usr/lpp/bos/inst_U#### (#### = Update number )

A: You should NOT delete the files in the /usr/lpp/bos/inst_root
directory because it will cause lppchck error as well as others. The
inst_root directory also contains several symbolic links which makes
it appear larger than the one megabyte is really contains.
All the files and subdirectories in the following directories may be
removed for those PTFs and LPPs that are in the COMMITted state.
/usr/lpp//inst_U*
/usr/lpp//deinstl
where "" is the name of an LPP or PTF.
The "lslpp -ah" command can be used to determine the state of the PTFs
and LPPs. These files are used to clean up after failed/rejected
installations and for de-installing uncommitted LPPs. Once you have
installed and committed an update, you can remove these files. In fact,
these files should have been removed automatically after an update is
committed but AIX is not deleting them. This problem is in the process
of being corrected.
