DB2/6000 QUESTIONS
ITEM: RTA000051583
QUESTION:
Can DB2/6000 be accessed from WINDOWS client through ODBC without going
through an intermediary OS/2 server running DDCS/2?
Can this access to DB2/6000 from an ODBC windows client use the TCP/IP
protocol?
---------- ---------- ---------- --------- ---------- ----------
A: Yes, if the Windows machine had TCP/IP for DOS, and the
Client Application Enabler/DOS (5765-217) products.
After installing these products, you catalog the DB2/6000
database on the CAE/DOS product. Then when the Windows client
makes an ODBC call, the CAE/DOS tsr checks the catalog entries
and figures out what TCP/IP rpc call to make on what socket
to what host.
The CAE/DOS product is for running DOS programs purchased from
vendors. If you need to create/compile source code to create
one of your own Windows clinets then you will need the
Software Developer Toolkit/DOS instead if CAE/DOS.
SDK/DOS is product number 5622-216.
