TCP/IP ALTERNATIVES FOR DB2/6000 CAE/DOS

QUESTION:
My customer has NetManage's Chameleon TCP/IP product for DOS users.
DB2/6000 CAE/DOS documentation only references IBM's TCP/IP for DOS.
Will other vendor TCP/IP products work?
Any restrictions; or, any reasons requiring IBM's product only?

---------- ---------- ---------- --------- ---------- ----------
A: In general, the Chameleon version of tcp/ip is known to work
with AIX. We have reports of customers calling the Support
center needing assistance with setting up print queues and
NFS mounting filesystems and cdroms; and they were successful
in getting these requests to work. This product may very
well work with CAE/DOS, but we have not specifically tested it.

The CAE/DOS product has been tested with IBM's TCP/IP for DOS,
and also a tcp/ip product from a company called FTP.
These products are known to work and are supported.
The NOVELL version of tcp/ip has also been used without
success and is not supported. All other versions of tcp/ip
have not been tested, and it is unknown whether they will
work or not, and are not supported.
If you want to use some other tcp/ip and it works, that's great.
If you try one and it works, let us know.
But if it doesn't work, IBM makes no commitment to fix the problem.

---------- ---------- ---------- --------- ---------- ----------
DB2/6000 installation. I have a customer who standardized on
NetManage's Chameleon TCP/IP product for its 8000+ DOS/Windows users.
If the customer cannot be guaranteed support for CAE/DOS because of
the TCP/IP package being used, then they will have to select another
database for its standard. Will IBM be limiting its support to just
two TCP/IP packages for this environment, and if there is a problem
with the CAE/DOS product with an unsupported TCP/IP package, will they
not get full support if a problem occurs with the CAE/DOS program?
Thanks for your help.

R: The response from Software Support:
If a problem is reported on a different TCP/IP, we definitely will
look at the problem, and try to reproduce it with the software
we have here in the lab. If we can reproduce the problem, and
determine the problem to be with CAE/DOS or DB2/6000 then it
will be fixed. However, if we can't reproduce the problem
and believe it to be a result of the Chameleon product, then
the problem will probably be closed.

Over time, additional TCP/IP products are being tested and added
to the officially supported list. The version currently being
tested is Novix from Novell which has failed in previous tests.

To our knowledge, the Chameleon product is not currently being
   tested.
