PROBLEM WITH NETWARE WORKSTATIONS AND RISC SYSTEM/6000 AIX 3.2.2.

  I have a RISC System/6000 running AIX 3.2.2 which I am using as a             
  Netware Server for 5 workstations using the token ring. I am using two        
  link drivers on the workstations: token-ring and token-ring_snap.  These      
  drivers are configured on the workstations within the net.cfg file in         
  the following manner:                                                         
                                                                                
   link driver token                                                            
   frame token-ring_snap                                                        
   frame token-ring                                                            
   protocol ipx e0 token-ring                                                   
                                                                                
  This setup worked great until a couple weeks ago.  All of a sudden,           
  those workstation's which contained both link drivers are not working.        
  When I delete the token-ring frame, the workstation will recognize            
  Novell which is running on AIX.  When I delete the token-ring_snap            
  frame, the workstation recognizes the native Novell on DOS.  I have           
  exhausted all possible causes of this problem.  I am confident that           
  nothing was done to the system before this occurrence and I really            
  don't want to re-install Netware without a good explanation.  Can you         
  offer me any advice?

  You have TOKEN-RING_SNAP configured for NetWare for AIX and TOKEN-RING        
  for the native servers.  The only way for the AIX NetWare server to           
  see the native server(s) would be if another system was routing for           
  the TOKEN-RING and TOKEN-RING_SNAP frames types.  If there was a              
  system routing these two frame types that has been removed and will           
  not be replaced, then it would be better to configure AIX NetWare to          
  use the TOKEN-RING frame type.  This way everyone would use the IPX           
  protocol and for those PC's running LAN Workplace for DOS they would          
  have an entry in their net.cfg file for both TOKEN-RING and                   
  TOKEN-RING_SNAP. Be sure to use the "Protocol IPX 8137 TOKEN-RING"            
  statement in the net.cfg file.  Your PC's will still be able to               
  access the RISC System/6000 via TCP/IP because AIX uses SNAP with             
  the TCP/IP protocol.
