QUESTION:
Using CFRS6000, I cannot configure a 3151-510 or 3151-610 with a
RISC/6000 model 220. However, this option does appear for a model
34H. In SALESMAN for the 220, it says that only the 310 and 410
are supported. My questions are:
1) Is this correct?
2) Why would 3151 models 510 & 610 only be supported on certain
RISC/6000 models? Isn't the only difference a PS/2 keyboard?

A: The IBM 3151 Model 310 and 410 are designed to work with the RISC
System/6000 while the Model 510 and 610 are designed to work with
PS/2. However, the Model 510 and 610 in ASCII Keyboard mode will
operate just fine on the RISC System/6000.
Be aware that the Model 510 and 610 does not have the all of the
functions of the IBM 3161, like programmable Function Keys. So,
use caution when proposing the Model 510 and 610 with the RISC
System/6000.
The 3151 Model 310 and 410 are the correct models that are
supported on the 220.
When using the 3151 Model 510 or 610 in ASCII mode, consider the
following:
1. The Model 510 or 610 do not allow the Function Keys to be
redefined from the Host or Keyboard. Applications that
require this function, needs to be changed.
2. The Model 510 or 610 Keyboard becomes the Model 310 or 410
Keyboard Layout. Even though a Template is provided, this
may cause Operator confusion: Num Lock Key is the Jump Key,
Right Ctrl Key is the Send Key, the Alt Keys are the Reset
and Ctrl Keys, Page Up is the Clear and Page Down is the
Erase EOF key.
3. The Model 510 and 610 offer the following advantages:
Window and Mouse Commands.
PC Code Page 437 and 850 in ASCII mode.
ANSI X3.64 Cursor Addressing.
There is not a statement of support for the Model 510 and 610 in
the Announcement Letters even though they can be ordered in the
Configurator.
