The customer is asking if the CLIENT must be running
the POWERPC EDITION of WINDOWS NT 3.51, or is x86 (Intel) NT
sufficient to connect to a SERVER running the POWERPC EDITION of
Windows NT?
A:
Windows NT 3.51 Workstation on x86 will connect with no limitation to
Windows NT 3.51 Server on supported-RISC System/6000s. Specifically
PowerPC-based NT Clients and Servers seemlessly participate
in NT domains with x86 Clients and Servers. PowerPC ThinkPads connect
using modems and the Remote Access Services (RAS) exactly like
x86 ThinkPads. The RISC-based NT systems will participate in
a Workgroup as a peer to x86-based NT systems.
Windows NT 3.51 Server on supported RISC System/6000x has all the
connectivity capabilities of windows NT on x86 (Intel) based NT.
Specifically, PowerPC-based NT Clients and Servers seemlessly
participate in NT Domains. PowerPC ThinkPads can connect using modems
using Remote Access Services (RAS) exactly like a x86 ThinkPad.
Both machine types will also participate equally in a Workgroup Network.
Windows NT is a Trademark of microsoft corporation.
